Livermore, ME, June 15, 2009 – A two week break from competition paid off for Coombs Motorsports on Saturday night with a sixth place finish in Late Model action at Oxford Plains Speedway.

The 57 team started off well posting sixth and second on the speed charts in the first two practices of the day. With the balance of the car to driver Doug Coombs’ liking, the team sat out the final practice.

Points set the drivers up for their heat races, placing the Coombs Motorsports team fifth in the first heat. In the ten-lap shootout Coombs picked up two more spots finishing third in the qualifier, giving the team its first top three of the season.

The late model feature was the last on the night and provided spectators with a great show of 40 caution-free laps. Missing last week’s race put Coombs toward the back of the 21-car field in the 15’th position. When the green flag dropped the back of the pack knotted together, forcing Coombs to run the inside groove. Once the melee thinned out Coombs drove the 57 to the outside groove and began picking his way through the traffic.

Coombs made his way to fifth and held the position until the right front began to chatter on lap 37 allowing Travis Adams to pass him for a top five finish. Coombs still posted a season best finish of sixth, providing the team with momentum for Double T Fence night this Saturday, June 20.
