It’s that time of year once again. The best race teams in the North East and Canada are preparing their late models to attempt to qualify for this Sunday’s TD Banknorth 250. The wheels are waiting in anticipation of new rubber, the team is energized, and the car is ready for its chance to prove itself.

Coombs Motorsports will be back at Oxford Plains on Saturday to get its chance to compete in New England’s premier short track event. The team raced a limited schedule this season to prepare for this race. Despite the schedule and small crew Coombs Motorsports has finished in the top ten in all of its 2009 races.

As anyone who has tried to qualify for the 250 knows, it’s not how good you are it’s how good you pick your qualifying spot. This year the honor of drawing goes to Doug Coombs’ daughter, Allison.

Coombs Motorsports is also dedicating this weekend’s qualifying attempt to Coombs’ father, Charlie, who passed away suddenly in December. This season Charlie’s name has remained on the car with a signature gold ribbon next to it.
